About the event
The Skin Project is a three-hour, walk-and-paint workshop led by artist Ruohan Yu and curated by Nicole Zihua Zhang. The workshop forms part of Yu’s ongoing doctoral research at the University of Brighton, which examines painting as a sensual and material object that mediates our translation and reconstruction of everyday environments.
In Yu’s practice, walking is not merely a way of collecting visual references but an embodied methodology through which the body transforms dispersed urban places into lived, personal spaces. The painting, in this sense, becomes an object that activates sensory experience, emotional resonance, and memory by "borrowing” the “sensual qualities of objects” it references.
